“Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But Poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.”
– Robin Williams, from Movie – Dead Poets Society (1989)
Even if we deny Art its due credit, this lockdown has taught nearly everyone how crucial Art is for our life. Sitting at home with no physical interaction with friends or people, humans sought and found intimacy from and within art. Whether it was listening to your favorite singers on repeat, binge-watching indie films, or discovering that little painter in you, or finding your hidden talent in baking. We have all found a recreation to call our own.
But one does not need a pandemic to help oneself discover a hobby, there is a much more convenient and enjoyable way to do so, and that too with friends – Art Workshops/classes. Of course, for those working in a corporate environment, the word workshop most likely conjures up images of boring seminars that are meant to improve workplace performance. But good art workshops are nothing like that.
Art workshops such as those about pottery making, or calligraphy are both fun and make learning something new enjoyable. They are not simply crash courses into a certain activity but can become an emotional outlet by letting your creative juices flow. For example, trying to discover pottery-making by yourself can be a tricky task, but when attending a workshop for the same you can be creative and have the help of a professional to not worry too much about the technicalities involved.
So this new year make a change, this weekend go and attend an art workshop with your friends and family and discover the hidden artist in you. If you are unsure about where you can attend one, here are some mentioned in the list below.
